The newly appointed Ambassador from Azerbaijan to the Maldives, His Excellency, Dr. Ashraf Farhad Shikhaliyev, presented his Letter of Credence to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih this morning at the President’s Office.

During the call following the formal ceremony, the Ambassador congratulated the President on his electoral victory, and expressed his best wishes towards President Solih’s Government and the people of Maldives.

The new Ambassador of Switzerland to the Maldives, His Excellency Hanspeter Mock presented his Letter of Credence to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, this afternoon, at a ceremony held at the President’s Office.

During the call, President Solih welcomed Ambassador Mock to the Maldives and congratulated him on the commencement of his tenure. The President indicated that the Maldives attaches great importance to the cordial ties of friendship and cooperation between the Maldives and Switzerland, and hoped that these friendly relations will continue to strengthen in the days ahead.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has arrived back in the Maldives early this morning, on the conclusion of an official visit to the United Arab Emirates.

The President made the visit at the invitation of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of Armed Forces of the UAE. During the visit, President Solih attended the Zayed Sustainability Awards Ceremony and Inaugurated the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, conducted on 14th January 2019.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives, His Excellency Mr. Abdulla Shahid met with Dr. Jaber Bittar, Advisor at the Office of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of United Arab Emirates in Abu Dhabi today.

Minister Shahid and Advisor Dr. Bittar discussed on areas of mutual interest of the two countries and explored opportunities for greater cooperation by United Arab Emirates in the developmental projects in Maldives.

The Minister was accompanied at the meeting by Mr. Husen Amru Mohamed Rashad, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of State Trading Organization and Mr. Abdul Waris Saeed, Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Minister of Environment of the Republic of Maldives, His Excellency Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan and the Minister of Climate Change and Environment of the United Arab Emirates, His Excellency Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation in the Field of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, at a ceremony held this evening at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.

The MoU will facilitate cooperation between the two countries with regard to renewable energy, generating the exchange of experiences relating to practices, policies, frameworks and the sharing of scientific and technological information.

The Government of Maldives considers this as a significant milestone in the bilateral relations which the two countries nurture and one which will help the Maldives in moving towards a more sustainable future as in the vision of President Solih’s Government.

The ceremony took place on the sidelines of the Official Visit to the United Arab Emirates by His Excellency President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. His Excellency the President is accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Abdulla Shahid and the Minister of Environment, His Excellency Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan.
