Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives meets with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of UAE
Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Abdulla Shahid met his counterpart, His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates, today.
During the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of UAE in Abu Dhabi, His Highness Minister Abdullah extended a warm welcome to Minister Shahid. His Highness also extended warm congratulations and good wishes to His Excellency President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and expressed his good wishes for the Maldives to reach new heights of development and progress under President Solih’s leadership.
The two ministers discussed today the issue of visa waiver for Maldivians travelling to UAE. From the beginning of 2019 Maldivians will be able to travel visa free to UAE.
Minister Shahid thanked His Highness for the warm welcome and kind hospitality extended to him and his delegation during his visit and also for the continued support towards the development of the Maldives. Both Ministers discussed ways of further strengthening the close brotherly relations between the two countries including cooperation on higher education and assistance in renewable energy.
Minister Shahid was accompanied by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Ahmed Khaleel and Ambassador of Maldives to the United Arab Emirates, His Excellency Dr. Hussain Niyaaz. Minister Shahid is on his first official visit to UAE from 27 – 30 November 2018.
