PRESIDENT DECIDES ON THE MALDIVES’ PARTICIPATION IN TWO CONVENTIONS ON ADVICE FROM THE CABINET
Following recommendation from the Cabinet, President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has decided for the Maldives to participate in the convention of “Framework Agreement on the establishment of the International Solar Alliance” (ISA) and the convention of “Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic resources and their Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising From Their Utilization to the Convention on Biological Diversity”. The deliberations were made at today’s meeting of the Cabinet, on the two papers presented by the Ministry of Environment and Energy.
“Framework Agreement on the establishment of the International Solar Alliance” (ISA) endorses to reduce the impact of climate change especially for small Island states like Maldives.
“Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic resources and their Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from Their Utilization to the Convention on Biological Diversity” aims at conserving biological diversity, promoting the sustainable use of its components, and encouraging equitable sharing of the benefits arising out of the genetics resources.
