Foreign Minister Dr. Mohamed Asim’s message on the occasion of United Nations Day
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has celebrated the United Nations Day today.
To mark the occasion, H.E. Dr Mohamed Asim, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives released a message this morning which reiterated the Maldives’ unwavering belief in the noble principles and objectives of the United Nations, which was founded in 1945 as a beacon of hope that is an exemplar of human cooperation and understanding. The Minister’s Message also outlined the important areas where the United Nations has been an instrumental partner for the Maldives in its trajectory to greater development over the years.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with the United Nations Country Team also co-hosted a lunch reception today at the Ministry. H.E. Mr Ahmed Sareer the Foreign Secretary, and Ms. Shoko Noda, Resident Coordinator of the United National delivered brief remarks at the event, on the importance of partnership and cooperation. Both the remarks focused on the importance of partnership and cooperation between the Government and the UN Country Team.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the Public Service Media (PSM) also hosted a TV programme in which the work of the United Nations in the Maldives, as well as the Maldives’ role in the United Nations, from its membership in 1965 to today was discussed.
