Minister of Foreign Affairs concludes Official visit to India

Minister of Foreign Affairs His Excellency Abdulla Shahid has departed from New Delhi, after concluding his official visit to India.

During his maiden visit, Minister Shahid called on His Excellency Ram Nath Kovind, President of the Republic of India, and met with Her Excellency Sushma Swaraj, Minister of External Affairs, Her Excellency Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of Defense and His Excellency Ajit Doval, National Security Advisor.

In his meetings, the Minister highlighted the importance accorded by the new government to renewing the traditional ties of friendship that has always existed between the Maldives and India, and discussed ways to further strength the relationship.

Further, the Minister also discussed the preparations for President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s forthcoming State Visit to India.

The delegation also met with the representatives of the Confederation of Indian Industry to discuss investment opportunities in the Maldives.

Minister Shahid was accompanied by the Minister of Finance His Excellency Ibrahim Ameer, the Minister of Economic Development His Excellency Fayyaz Ismail, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs His Excellency Ahmed Khaleel, Foreign Secretary His Excellency Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed, and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Finance.
