Minister of State for External Affairs of India, arrives in Maldives calls on Foreign Minister

The Minister of State for External Affairs of India, His Excellency Mr. M.J. Akbar arrived in Maldives this morning on an official visit. The State Minister was received on arrival at the Velaana International Airport, by the Foreign Secretary, His Excellency  Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed and  Secretary, Bilateral Mr. Ahmed Khaleel.

The Minister of State for External Affairs of India, His Excellency Mr. M.J. Akbar called on Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Asim, this morning.

During the call held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Asim welcomed the State Minister to the Maldives and reflected on the close friendly relations between the Maldives and India. Discussions also ensued on ways to further strengthen the relations between the two countries on various areas of cooperation. Minister Asim expressed his gratitude for the immense contribution of India towards the socio-economic development of the Maldives.

The Maldives has close historical ties with India and pursue an India First Policy. India has always assisted Maldives during the challenging times and has always been a strong and trusted friend to the Maldives.

Minister Asim was accompanied by His Excellency Dr Ali Naseer Mohamed, Foreign Secretary, His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Khaleel, Secretary, Bilateral, Ms. Aishath Azeema, Joint Secretary and Ms. Moomina Ibrahim, Assistant Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
