Foreign Minister Shahid holds meetings with the US State Department
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid met with senior officials of the United States Department of State today.
At the meeting held with Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asia, Ambassador Alice Wells, discussions were held on ways to further enhance bilateral cooperation between the Maldives and the United States, including strengthening governance and democratic consolidation in the Maldives.
Foreign Minister Shahid also met with the Under Secretary for Political Affairs, Mr. David Hale and exchanged views on further strengthening future cooperation between the Maldives and the United States.
Furthermore, as part of the existing cooperation between the Maldives and the United States on counter-terrorism, Minister Shahid also met with Ambassador-at-Large and Coordinator for counter-terrorism at the State Department, Mr. Nathan A. Sales, and explored avenues for further cooperation, including future programs on counter-terrorism.
Minister Shahid was accompanied in the meetings by Mr. Ahmed Khaleel, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Mr. Ali Naseer Mohamed, Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the UN and Ambassador to the United States.
