Maldivians Visiting India
Maldivians are granted 90-day on arrival visa upon entry into India. This visa is given solely for the purpose of tourism / leisure. This period of 90-days shall count the period of stay if any during the preceding six months and depends on the discretion of the Immigration officials at the point of entry. If any Maldivian wishes to travel for a longer duration or for any other purpose, appropriate visa should be taken from The High Commission of India in Malé.
Visa category cannot be changed from a tourist visa to any other purpose. If you wish to travel to India for medical or study purposes, prior visa from the High Commission of India in Maldives has to be obtained in order to avoid any difficulties later.
Upon arrival in India, if you wish to stay for a duration longer than 180 days (6 months) or have a visa, you have to get registered at the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), at the Office of the Commissioner of Police in your district within 14 days from the date of arrival in India. If not, a late payment fine is taken per person by FRRO. You will get more information about the documents that need to be submitted for registration from the FRRO. Once you get registered you will be given a Resident Permit (RP) and Registration Certificate (RC).
Please make sure to inform the local authorities if your residential address changes.
If you wish to extend your stay in India, please inform to the authorities 8-12 weeks in advance. The FRRO again will be dealing with extensions of visas.

Maldivians, who wish to obtain details with regard to visiting India for purposes other than tourism, may contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives and / or the High Commission of India in Malé.
Foreigners Travelling to Maldives
To enter Maldives no pre-arrival visa is required.
A thirty day free visa is issued on arrival for all Nationalities, provided the following conditions are met:
- Should possess a valid passport and;
- Have a valid ticket to continue the journey out of Maldives and;
- Have enough funds to cover the expenses for duration of the stay in Maldives. (US$100 + $50 dollars per day) or a confirmation of reservation in a Tourist Resort or a Hotel.
Caution: Full 30 – day visa is not a right of the passenger to claim, but lies at the discretion of the Immigration to issue not more than thirty days and any period less than thirty days.
