Foreign Minister meets the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan

Foreign Minister His Excellency Mr. Abdulla Shahid along with the Minister of Finance His Excellency Ibrahim Ameer, and the Minister of Economic Development His Excellency Uz Fayyaz Ismail met with the His Excellency Hiroshige Seko, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan.

Minister Seko, warmly welcomed Minister Shahid and delegation, and exchanged views on further strengthening the economic cooperation between the Maldives and Japan. During the meeting, the Foreign Minister thanked Minister Seko for the generous assistance extended to the Maldives under Japan’s Economic and Social Development Programmes. Read more

Foreign Minister calls on the Deputy Prime Minister of Japan

Foreign Minister, His Excellency Mr. Abdulla Shahid paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Taro Aso, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Japan.

During the meeting, held at the Ministry of Finance of Japan this afternoon, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Shahid discussed various aspects of the bilateral relations between the two countries. Minister Shahid also thanked the Government of Japan for the close and friendly manner in which it has always regarded the Maldives. The Deputy Prime Minister reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to implementing the vision articulated by President Mohamed Ibrahim Solih for further economic and social development of the Maldives.

Foreign Minister meets the President of Japan External Trade Organisation

Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Abdulla Shahid met with Mr. Yasushi Akahoshi, President of the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), in Tokyo today.

During the meeting, held at the JETRO Headquarters, Minister Shahid discussed on various issues, including increasing Japanese investment in Maldives & strengthening trade ties between the two countries.

Mr. Akahoshi was joined by Mr. Nayoshi Noguchi, Vice President of JETRO, at the meeting.

The Minister is accompanied at the meeting by the Minister of Finance His Excellency Ibrahim Ameer, the Minister of Economic Development His Excellency Uz Fayyaz Ismail, senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Maldives in Japan.

During the meeting, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Minister Shahid recalled his visit to Japan in 2007 to open the Embassy of the Maldives in Tokyo and Minister noted that it marked as a new era in the Maldives – Japan relations. Minister of Foreign Affairs meets with the Minister of Environment of Japan

Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Abdulla Shahid met with Minister of Environment of Japan, His Excellency Yoshiaka Harada, this morning in Tokyo.

At the meeting held at the Ministry of Environment of Japan, Minister Shahid recognized and commended the role of Japan in the global arena in pushing for action against climate change.
