Special Advisor to the Japanese Prime Minister, Member of Parliament His Excellency Mr. Kentaro Sonoura, has paid a courtesy call on President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The meeting was held this afternoon at the President’s Office.

During the call, the President welcomed Mr. Kentaro Sonoura to the Maldives and thanked him for visiting the country. Shedding light on the strong bilateral ties that exist between the Maldives and Japan, President Solih stated that ever since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1967 both countries have enjoyed mutual trust and understanding, and expressed interests to further strengthen the existing relations between the two countries. The United Nations Resident Coordinator to the Republic of Maldives, Her Excellency Ms. Shoko Noda, called on His Excellency Abdulla Shahid, Minister of Foreign Affairs, this afternoon.

Ms. Shoko Noda was accompanied by Dr. Arvind Mathur, WHO Representative to the Maldives and Mr. Mohamed El Munir A. Safieldin, UNICEF Representative to the Maldives.

During the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the UN Resident Coordinator and the Country Representatives congratulated the Minister on his appointment and discussed ways of further strengthening the existing collaboration between the Maldives and the United Nations. Read more

The Ambassador of India to the Maldives Akhilesh Mishra, and his spouse Reeti Mishra have paid a courtesy call on President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The meeting was held this morning at the President’s Office.

During the call, President Solih and the Indian Ambassador emphasized the long standing bilateral relations between the Maldives and India. The President and the Ambassador shed light on various segments where the existing ties between the two countries could further strengthen, including health, education, technology, youth and women empowerment, sports cooperation, housing and infrastructure development, and water and sewerage services.

Speaking at the meeting the Indian Ambassador highlighted that the “First 100 Days” agenda of President Solih’s administration is the ideal platform for the Maldives and India to further build relations on. The Ambassador further assured of India’s full support and cooperation in achieving these goals.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs joins the nationwide campaign to minimize Single-Use Plastic, initiated by His Excellency President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih today.

At a ceremony held at the Ministry this morning, Foreign Minister Shahid, presented reusable glass water bottles to the staff of the Ministry, which could be used as a replacement for single-use plastic bottles. In his remarks at the ceremony, Minister Shahid praised His Excellency President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, for leading by example, by launching the Campaign to minimize Single-Use Plastic in the President’s Office this morning.
