Foreign Minister His Excellency Mr. Abdulla Shahid met with the Minister of Defense of India, Excellency Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman today.

Minister Nirmala, welcomed Minister Shahid and exchanged the views on further strengthening the defense corporation between the two countries and committed to work together.

Minister was accompanied by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, H.E.Mr. Ahmed Khaleel, Ms. Aminath Shabeena, Deputy Head of Mission at the Maldives Embassy in Delhi and Ms. Mariyam Midhfa Naeem, Director at the India Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Minister of Foreign Affairs His Excellency Mr. Abdulla Shahid called on His Excellency Ram Nath Kovind, President of the Republic of India today.

During the call, the President welcomed the Minister to India on his first visit. The Minister thanked the President for the warm welcome and generous hospitality extended to him, and his delegation, and conveyed greetings and good wishes from His Excellency Mr. Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, President of the Republic of Maldives and thanked the President for the good wishes extended to President Solih upon his inauguration. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has today appointed Dr. Musthafa Luthufee as the Special Adviser on Social Policy. The appointment was made at the Ministerial level.

The President has also appointed Shifaz Ali as the Minister of State for National Planning and Infrastructure.

The ceremony to present the letters of appointment was held this afternoon at the President’s Office.

During the meeting held at the Ministry of External Affairs of India, Minister Swaraj welcomed Minister Shahid on his first official visit to India, after assuming office. Minister Shahid thanked Minister Swaraj for the warm welcome and generous hospitality, extended to him and his delegation, and reaffirmed the commitment of President Solih, to renew and strengthen the long standing friendship and partnership between India and the Maldives.

At a meeting held at the President’s Office today, the Cabinet members have been briefed on the First 100Days Agenda of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The President and Vice President Faisal Naseem also attended today’s briefing session.

During the meeting, Cabinet members were also briefed on the Cabinet protocols, the matters for which Cabinet advice and recommendations are required, and the ethical standards to be maintained.

Moreover, discussions were held on the action plan towards achieving the First 100 Days Goals. Members of the Cabinet also assured of their commitment to meeting the goals within the timelines set.
