Ambassador of Singapore, H.E. Mr. Chua Thian Poh, has paid a courtesy call on Vice President Faisal Naseem this morning at the President’s Office.

During the call, the Vice President noted that the Maldives and Singapore have enjoyed an exceptional relationship in past years. The Vice President also expressed his hopes that the existing bilateral relations between the two countries will further strengthen.

Vice President Naseem commended Singapore on their developmental achievements, especially in the area of socio-economic development. He also exchanged ideas with the Singaporean Ambassador on continuing cooperation in socio-economic development in the Maldives, and advancement of youth.

Her Excellency Ms Daniela Gitman, Ambassador at Large, Special Representative for Promoting Romania’s candidacy to UNSC, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania, called on the Foreign Minister, His Excellency Abdulla Shahid, today.

At the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Gitman congratulated the Minister on his appointment and discussed about enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest particularly in the education sector.

Ambassador further highlighted the candidacy of Romania to the United Nations Security Council for the term of 2020-2021, election which is scheduled to be held during the 73rd Session of UNGA in June 2019 and requested for the support of Maldives for their candidature. Read more

His Excellency Wataru Takeshita, Special Envoy of the Prime Minister of Japan and Member of the House of Representatives of Japan paid a courtesy call on Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Abdulla Shahid today. Mr. Takeshita is also the President of the Japan-Maldives Parliamentary Friendship League and is in the Maldives on invitation from President Ibrahim Solih to attend the Presidential Inauguration Ceremony that was held on 17 November 2018. Mr. Takeshita has previously visited the Maldives in 2014.

During the meeting, Foreign Minister Shahid and the Special Envoy discussed ways to further strengthen the relations between the two countries in areas of mutual interest. The Foreign Minster emphasised on the historic and lasting relations between the two countries that is founded on a mutual understanding of trust and friendship. The Foreign Minister also recognised and thanked the Government of Japan for the development assistance provided by Japan which is featured prominently throughout the development journey of the Maldives.

The Ambassador of Singapore to the Maldives His Excellency Chua Thian Poh, Non-Resident Ambassador of Singapore to the Maldives paid a courtesy call on Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Abdulla Shahid this afternoon.

During the meeting held at the Ministry, Minister Shahid conveyed good wishes and commended on Ambassador’s contribution in strengthening the bilateral relations between Maldives and Singapore.

Ambassador Chua assured the Minister that Singapore will continue to provide technical assistance towards socio economic development of the Maldives.

Minister Shahid also said that the Maldives cherishes the close relationship with Singapore and looks forward to further enhancing the existing relations between the two countries.

Foreign Minister Shahid was accompanied by Mr. Ahmed Khaleel, Secretary Bilateral at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mrs. Lauza Ali, Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Her Excellency Alaina Teplitz, Ambassador of United States of America to the Republic of Maldives, called on the Foreign Minister, His Excellency Abdulla Shahid, today.

At the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Minister congratulated the Ambassador on her appointment and discussed about ways to further strengthen and enhance the existing bilateral relations between the two countries on issues of bilateral significance such as institutional reform and defence cooperation.

Ambassador Teplitz also expressed the US Government’s readiness in working closely with the Government of Maldives to assist in the successful implementation of the administrations ambitious 100 day agenda and further strengthening democratic institutions, protecting freedom of expression, and ensuring the rule of law.
