The Secretary-General of SAARC, His Excellency Mr. Amjad Hussain B Sial, has paid a courtesy call on President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, this morning at the President’s Office.

During the call, the President welcomed the SAARC Secretary-General to the Maldives and thanked him for accepting the invitation to the Presidential Inauguration ceremony held last evening.

The Secretary-General of SAARC expressed his thanks to President Solih for the invitation and congratulated President Solih on his assumption of office.

Discussions were also held between President Solih and the Secretary-General of SAARC on how to combat the challenges being faced by the SAARC organization.

President Solih assured the SAARC Secretary General of Maldives’ commitment to resolving the challenges through dialogue with other member States of SAARC.

The Former President of Sri Lanka, Her Excellency Madam Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, has paid a courtesy call on President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih this morning at the President’s Office.

During the call, the President welcomed Madam Kumaratunga to the Maldives and thanked her for accepting the invitation to witness the Presidential Inauguration ceremony held last evening.

Madam Kumaratunga expressed her thanks to President Solih for the invitation and congratulated President Solih on his assumption of office. She said that it is her pleasure to witness firsthand, an order being re-established in the Maldives.

Speaking at the meeting, President Solih and the former Sri Lankan President shed light on past experiences and exchanged views on the importance of maintaining harmony in the region.

The representative of His Majesty the King of Morocco, the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Morocco, Her Excellency Mounia Boucetta, has paid a courtesy call on President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The meeting was held this morning at the President’s Office.

During the call, the President welcomed Her Excellency Mounia Boucetta to the Maldives and thanked her for visiting the country.

Speaking at the meeting, the President and the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Morocco shed light on the centuries-old history of Maldives and Morocco; while expressing hopes that the existing ties between the Maldives and Morocco will be further enhanced in the upcoming days.

The Moroccan Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation also extended well wishes and felicitations from the King of Morocco, and congratulated President Solih on his assumption of office.

Special Envoy of the Japanese Prime Minister, Member of the House of Representatives Wataru Takeshita has paid a courtesy call to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, this morning at the President’s Office.

During the call, the President welcomed Mr. Wataru Takeshita to the Maldives and thanked him for attending yesterday’s Presidential Inauguration ceremony.

At the meeting, the President highlighted that last year the Maldives and Japan celebrated the golden jubilee anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The President also expressed gratitude for Japan’s contributions towards the development of the Maldives over the years, especially in areas of education and trade. Special Envoy of the Chinese President, Minister of Culture and Tourism H.E. Mr. Luo Shugang has paid a courtesy call on President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih this morning, at the President’s Office.

At the call, the President welcomed H.E. Mr. Luo Shugang to the Maldives and conveyed good wishes to the President of China.

Noting that the Maldives values the historical and brotherly relations with China, President Solih underscored the contributions made by China to the development of Maldives over the years. The President further expressed his confidence for continued cooperation between the two countries in the future.

At the meeting, the Special Envoy of the Chinese President assured President Solih of China’s commitment to further strengthening the close bilateral relations.
