President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has stated that it is his dream to make the Maldives the most honourable, economically self-sufficient, the most outstanding nation in this entire South Asian region. The President made this remark while addressing the gathering at the function organized by Progressive Party of Maldives in Villingili.

In his speech, President Yameen highlighted the numerous projects carried out across country especially for youth empowerment and wellbeing. In this regard, the President announced plans to develope an international racing track in Villimale´, and emphasized future plans to develope a world-class surfing destination in Thanburudhoo Island, catering to the needs of the talented Maldivian surfers.

In his speech, President Yameen highlighted the numerous development projects that are being carried out in the nation to meet the housing needs of the people, especially noting the administration’s housing schemes targeted for the country’s youth.

In this regard, President Yameen said that the “Hiyaa” housing project in the Hulhumale´ youth city will continue into “Hiyaa Accomplished” project to be carried out in Villimale´ Phase 2. He also reiterated that the administration’s two housing schemes were planned as total solution projects for the housing problems being faced today. He further underscored that Hiyaa Accomplished project would ensure solutions for 315,000 Maldivians, and is directly linked to the hope of Maldivian youth and all those in need of housing.

Speaking at the function, the President also noted that the Villimale´ phase 2 project will bring hope to all Maldivians and that it denotes the economic viability required of the country. He further underscored that under the Villimale´ phase 2 project, Thilafushi, Villingili, Gulhifahu and Male´ will be connected via a bridge.

Moreover, President Yameen reiterated that the administration would never tolerate any action that may impact the independence and sovereignty of our nation.

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has congratulated the Maldives’ National Football Team on winning this year’s SAFF Suzuki Cup. The Maldives beat India 2-1 in the final match played today.

During a telephone conversation with the team captain, President Yameen lauded the team’s performance today, and expressed gratitude on behalf of the Maldivian people, and on his own behalf, for making the whole nation proud.

During a phone conversation with the captain of the Maldivian National Football Team, President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has conveyed his best wishes to the team, ahead of today’s final match of the SAFF Suzuki Cup 2018. The match will be played against India at 1800 hrs local time.

The President appealed to all the players to put in their best efforts to make the Maldivian people proud.

This year’s tournament is being held in Bangladesh.

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has stated that the role of youth generation is vital in bringing a positive change. The President made this remark while speaking at the ceremony held this evening to mark the completion of five projects in Fuvammulah City.

During his speech President Yameen said that it is necessary to have a courageous youth generation for the progress of any country or a community.

In his speech the President also highlighted the development projects undertaken in the capital city during this administration. In this regard, President Yameen noted that today the capital city Male´ is a livable city full of hope. Highlighting the need of focusing on infrastructural development in all the islands and cities across the country, the President announced plans to  initiate a road development project in Fuvammulah City.

President Yameen spoke on the special efforts to be made to complete infrastructural development projects in the islands and the cities in the upcoming 5 years.

Highlighting the issue of waste management in the country, the President stated that the administration will focus on resolving the issue across the country in the upcoming years, and hence the waste management issue in Fuvammulah City will be solved in the upcoming years.

Further, the President said that his aim is to discontinue importing at least 5 food items including fruits and vegetables in the coming 5 years, and be able to completely rely on Maldivian products and expanding the agriculture sector.

President Yameen also highlighted the efforts made by this administration to provide more job opportunities and noted that so far the administration has provided almost 100,000 additional jobs, of which 99% is occupied by Maldivians. President Yameen also said that 160,000 job opportunities will be introduced in the tourism sector in the coming years.

During this ceremony, the President initiated sewerage services and water services, inaugurated housing units and nature park, and marked the completion of the harbour revetment project in Fuvammulah City.

Earlier today, President Yameen visited Feydhoo of Addu City, and inaugurated the water services of Feydhoo, Maradhoo and Maradhoo-Feydhoo, and marked the completion of the land reclamation project in Feydhoo.

Prior to his visit to Feydhoo, the President visited Hulhumeedhoo yesterday, and inaugurated sewerage services, water services, housing units and the Addu Fisheries Complex, and marked the completion of the shore protection project in Hulhumeedhoo. He also inaugurated the sewerage services, housing units, nature park and solar hybrid power system in Hithadhoo Island yesterday evening.
