President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has visited Dhangethi Island of South Ari Atoll this morning, as part of his current visit to some islands of the Ari Atoll and South Nilandhe Atoll.

During the visit, President Yameen met with the island’s community.

During this tour, the President is scheduled to mark the completion of road development project in Mahibadhoo Island.

Moreover, the President is also scheduled to inaugurate the sewerage services in the Maamigili Island.

President Yameen is also scheduled to visit Mathiveri Island, Thoddoo Island and Kudahuvadhoo Island as part of this tour.

His Excellency Mr Ahmed Khaleel, Secretary Bilateral at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, hosted a luncheon in honour of Mr Hara Shohei, Director General, South Asia Department of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), today.

During the luncheon, the discussions between the Secretary Bilateral and the Director General focused on opportunities for further enhancing socio-economic cooperation between the two countries through JICA.

The Secretary Bilateral Khaleel thanked JICA for the opportunities and exchange programmes offered to the Maldives, while noting that this has positively contributed to the human resource and economic development of the country.

The Secretary Bilateral and the Director General also discussed some of the ongoing projects under the assistance of the Government of Japan. The Director General was accompanied by Ms Kamei Haruko, Senior Director for South Asia Division from JICA Headquarters, Mr. Saito Hiroshi, Resident Representative and officials from the JICA Maldives Office.

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has appealed to everyone to put forth the nation’s interest, and prioritise national development. The President made this appeal while addressing the people of Hinnavaru Island of Faadhippolhu Atoll, during his visit to the island Friday evening. The President also appealed for the support and cooperation of all citizens to the administration in carrying out its development agenda.

In his speech, the President condemned the call for foreign military intervention by the opposition, noting that a patriot will never support such a traitorous act.

Speaking in this regard, President Yameen reiterated that the only means of ensuring our independence and safety was by having full control over all the domestic affairs of the country. He further noted the danger in involving foreign parties every time an internal decision was to be made for our country.

President Yameen also highlighted the numerous challenges being faced in the international arena. However, he reiterated the administration’s commitment to upholding the Islamic and national values despite the pressure.

President Yameen is currently on a two-day visit to Faadhippolhu Atoll.

As part of the tour, President Yameen visited Naifaru Island yesterday and inaugurated the Lhaviyani Atoll Hospital building and the island’s harbor.

This morning, the President visited Kurendhoo Island, where he took part in the ceremony to mark the completion of the island’s Shore Protection Project.

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has called for political differences to be put aside and always prioritise the national development, patriotism and our Islamic values. The President made this remark while speaking at the function held this morning to mark the completion of the shore protection project in Kurendhoo Island, Faadhippolhu Atoll.

Speaking at the ceremony, the President reiterated that despite our differing political views, we should all agree on and support the economic agenda that is intended to benefit the community.

Speaking in this regard, the President called upon everyone to support the administration’s efforts to improve the tourism and fisheries sectors, and not support any action that may hinder the progress of the industries.

Highlighting the importance of protecting and respecting the country’s religion, President Yameen noted that protecting the Islamic faith is the utmost priority for his administration.

Further, the President highlighted that he will always prioritise the people’s needs. He also noted that he understands the eagerness of the community to see the development projects become a reality. In addition, President Yameen reassured that the administration will put in every effort to fulfill the needs of the community. He also gave assurance of the administration’s priority to ensure justice.

During the visit, President Yameen met with the island’s community.

Prior to his visit to Olhuvelifushi, President Yameen visited Kurendhoo Island this morning and marked the completion of the shore protection project in the Island.

As part of the two-day tour, President Yameen visited Naifaru Island yesterday afternoon and inaugurated the Lhaviyani Atoll Hospital building and the island’s harbour. Moreover, the President made a visit to Hinnavaru Island and met the people of the island last evening.
