The Maldives’ Ambassador-designate to India, Her Excellency, Ms. Aishath Mohamed Didi paid a courtesy visit to His Excellency, Vice President Faisal Naseem this morning at the President’s Office.  

The Vice President congratulated the Ambassador-designate on her posting, and noted that her abilities and expertise will be of invaluable assistance in the work of consolidating the Maldives’ friendship with India.  

The Vice President noted areas the Maldives needs development assistance from India. This includes the building of facilities for persons with special needs, and increasing the number of scholarships for Maldivian students to study in India.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on behalf of all Maldivians, has expressed his gratitude to the President of the UAE His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the government of UAE for authorizing 30-days’ on arrival visa for Maldivians, starting 1 January 2019. The President also said that the Maldives and UAE shared close brotherly bonds.

While meeting the Maldivian community residing in UAE, President Solih stated that the administration was working with other gulf countries as well, on facilitating similar ease of travel for Maldivians. He noted that a high number of local professionals were employed overseas at various high-level jobs, at renowned institutes.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has expressed his aspiration to focus on renewable energy in the Maldives. President Solih stated this during the courtesy call made on the President by the United Arab Emirates Minister of Energy & Industry Suhail Mohamed Faraj Al Mazrouei.

President Solih is currently on an official visit to UAE at the invitation of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of Armed Forces of the UAE.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives, His Excellency Abdulla Shahid and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives and Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates on Establishing a Joint Cooperation Committee, at a ceremony held this afternoon at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre in Abu Dhabi.

The MoU will further strengthen the existing fraternal ties between the two countries by promoting cooperation in all areas of mutual interest. This collaboration will facilitate the realisation of common goals and aid in increasing the capacity for growth of the two nations.

As part of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s current visit to the United Arab Emirates, a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the Maldives and the UAE, on establishing a Joint Cooperation Committee.

The MoU was signed by the Maldives’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, and his UAE counterpart Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

President Solih is making the visit to UAE at the invitation of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of Armed Forces of the UAE, to attend the Zayed Sustainability Awards Ceremony and the Inauguration of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.
