Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid meets with the External Affairs Minister of India Sushma Swaraj
Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E Mr. Abdulla Shahid met with the External Affairs Minister of India, H.E. Ms. Sushma Swaraj today.
During the meeting held at the Ministry of External Affairs of India, Minister Swaraj welcomed Minister Shahid on his first official visit to India, after assuming office. Minister Shahid thanked Minister Swaraj for the warm welcome and generous hospitality, extended to him and his delegation, and reaffirmed the commitment of President Solih, to renew and strengthen the long standing friendship and partnership between India and the Maldives.
Both Ministers also discussed expanding economic, developmental, financial, and defense and security cooperation, between the two countries. Further, both Minsters recognised the dynamic people-to-people contact between the two countries, and agreed on the need to explore ways to ease movement between the two countries, including through new visa arrangements. Minister Swaraj also assured the full support of Indian Government in implementing the developmental agenda of the President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
Minister Shahid is on his first official visit to India from 26-27 November 2018. The Minister is accompanied by the Minister of Finance H.E. Mr Ibrahim Ameer, and the Minister of Economic Development H.E. Uz Fayyaz Ismail and officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance and the Maldives Embassy in Delhi,
