Parliamentary Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Government of Japan,Mr. Iwao HORII arrived in the Maldives for an official visit.

Mr. Iwao HORII was received at the Velana International Airport, by Foreign Secretary Mr. Ahmed Sareer, and Mr. Ahmed Fazeel, Director Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On his arrival, Mr. Iwao HORII called on Foreign Minister Dr. Mohamed Asim.

During the meeting, Minister Asim and Vice Minister HORII agreed to work together to further strengthen the existing cordial relations between Maldives and Japan.

Both Ministers also discussed on attracting Japanese investments to the Maldives, improving connectivity, promotion of trade and tourism, increasing people-to-people contact and collaboration in the multilateral arena of mutual interest including climate change, human security and sustainable development.

Mr. Iwao HORII is visiting the Maldives, in connection with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Japan.

The staff of the Embassy of Maldives in New Delhi demonstrated solidarity with the world by wearing orange to participate in the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.
The Embassy calls on all people in all parts of world to take action in their communities, play their part and stand up against violence against women and girls for the brighter future that orange signifies.
The Embassy of Maldives in New Delhi also calls for the prevention and elimination of violence against all women and girls so that no one is left behind.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Asim, attended as Chief Guest at the Reception hosted by the His Excellency Mr. Bryce Hutchesson, Ambassador of Australia to the Republic of Maldives, to congratulate and bid farewell to the recipients of Australia Awards Scholarships, this evening.

The Foreign Minister described the long-standing bilateral ties between the Maldives and Australia as an exemplary partnership and expressed gratitude and appreciation to the Government of Australia, for the commitment shown towards strengthening the relationship between the two countries.

The Foreign Minister further highlighted the contribution of the Australian Government towards human capacity building in the Maldives and thanked the Government of Australia for its generous assistance in this area, through the Australia Awards scheme.

In his remarks, the Australian Ambassador expressed his happiness and satisfaction on how the Australian graduates have been contributing to the socio-economic development of the Maldives by serving in productive roles in senior government positions and the private sector.

Minister Asim congratulated the Maldivian recipients of the Australia Awards 2018 and wished them well for their future endeavours.

The Ambassador of Australia to the Republic of Maldives His Excellency Bryce Hutchesson called on His Excellency Ahmed Sareer, Foreign Secretary of the Republic of Maldives, this afternoon.

The two dignitaries discussed the bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to further strengthen the existing relationship. Foreign Secretary Ahmed Sareer expressed his gratitude for the continuous support extended by the Australian government for the human resource development in the Maldives.

They also exchanged views on specific areas of cooperation between the two countries, in particular, environment and international relations.

In the meeting, Foreign Secretary Sareer was accompanied by Mr. Mohamed Shujau, Desk Officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ambassador Hutchesson was accompanied by Ms. Krishni Goonasena, First Secretary and Mr. Nicholas Burnett, Second Secretary of the Australian Embassy in Colombo.

The Non-Resident Ambassador of Socialist Republic of Vietnam to the Maldives, Her Excellency Madam Phan Kieu Thu, paid a farewell call on the Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Asim this morning.

At the meeting, both Minister Asim and Ambassador discussed on exploring ways to further consolidate the bilateral ties that exist between the two countries.

Foreign Minister highlighted how important Vietnam is to the Maldives for developing bilateral ties. The Minister also stated that there has been a grow in numbers of Maldivians travelling to Vietnam for various purposes, including for trade and commerce.

Minister Asim and Ambassador Thu expressed hopes of further strengthening the existing camaraderie between the two countries.

Foreign Minister Asim was accompanied by Ms. Zahiya Zareer, Ambassador at-Large, and Ms. Lauza Ali, Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
