President will present the National Award for Special Achievement

The National Awards Technical Committee has selected 24 honourees for this year’s National Award for Special Achievement; which includes 23 individuals and 1 private organization. President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom will present the National Award for Special Achievement at this year’s Republic Day function on Saturday evening, 11th of November, which will be held at Dharubaaruge.

Three honourees will receive the medal for exceptional academic achievement within the Maldives National Qualifications Framework, and 20 honourees will be recognised for attaining the top ranking in a higher academic course or training. The Special Achievement Award for attaining top ranking in an international museum or contest will be awarded to a private organization this year.

Special awards conferred by the State will also be awarded at this year’s Republic Day function. These include the President’s Medal for committing the Quran to memory in its entirety, conferred to 7 individuals; the President’s Medal to students who achieved first place in the world top ten in the 2016 IGCSE and GCE O’level examinations, and in the 2017 A’level examinations. Moreover, scouts who attained the President’s Scout Badge and the Guide who achieved the President’s Guide Badge will be honoured at the Republic Day function as well.

Ambassador Ahmed Mohamed meets with Indian School of Business

Ambassador H.E. Ahmed Mohamed held a meeting with Mr. Prashant Srivastava, Manager, External Relations from the Indian School of Business (ISB) this afternoon.

The meeting was held at the request of ISB. The main agenda of the meeting was to introduce ISB and its programmes to the Ambassador and discuss ways of promoting ISB to students from the Maldives.

Ambassador Ahmed shared his views on how best to attract Maldivian students to ISB.

The meeting was also attended by Ms. Fathimath Shafeega, Minister-Counselor from the Embassy.

President condemns attack on Riyadh; expresses solidarity with Saudi Arabia

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has sent a message of solidarity to His Majesty King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, King of Saudi Arabia and the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, condemning the attempted ballistic missile attack on Riyadh by the Houthi militia.

The President’s message reads as follows:

“It was with great shock and anger that I learned of the attempted ballistic missile attack on Riyadh by the Houthi militia, targeting innocent lives and crucial infrastructure.”

“The Government and the people of Maldives join me in condemning this act of terror in the strongest terms and assure our firm commitment to working closely with the Government of Saudi Arabia and the international community in eliminating the global threat of terrorism.”

“During this time of national distress, I also wish to express our firm solidarity with Saudi Arabia, in its efforts to restore regional peace and stability.”

“Please accept, Your Majesty, my personal best wishes for your good health and well-being, and the assurances of my highest consideration.”

His Excellency, Mr. Ahmed Mohamed meets with representatives from CII

 

November 6, 2017: Two representatives from The Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), Mr. Sanjay Dave, Chairman and Ms Anju Bist, Deputy Director from CII – Jubilant Bhartia Food and Agriculture Centre of Excellence (FACE) met with His Excellency, Mr. Ahmed Mohamed, the Maldives Ambassador to India, to discuss and seek assistance from the Embassy in India to invite key stakeholders from Maldives for the upcoming 12th CII Food Safety, Quality And Regulatory Summit to be held from 4-5 December, 2017 at The Lalit Hotel, New Delhi.

His Excellency, Mr. Ahmed Mohamed, extended his full support and said: “The summit will be an excellent opportunity for the Maldives to gain more insight on global best practices in food safety, quality and regulatory regimes. This will help us in not only the country’s own fishery exports but also in the import of food essentials to the country.”  His Excellency assured the representatives that he would pass on information of the Summit to the relevant stakeholders in Maldives.

The 12th Annual Food Safety and Quality And Regulatory Summit 2017, is the only one of its kind, International summit in India. The summit aims at bringing the entire ecosystem of the Food Safety and Food Processing industry on one global platform to discuss the best practices in food quality and safety systems with Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI)

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) works to create and sustain an environment conducive to the development of India, partnering industry, Government, and civil society, through advisory and consultative process.

New Ambassador of Romania and Nepal Presents Credentials to the President

The new Ambassador of Romania to the Maldives, His Excellency Mr. Radu Octavian Dobre has presented his credentials to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom‎, this morning, at the President’s Office.‎

At the ceremony, the President conveyed greetings and good wishes to the President, His Excellency Klaus Iohannis and Prime Minister, His Excellency Mihai Tudose of Romania, and congratulated Ambassador Dobre on his appointment. The President highlighted the Ambassador’s accreditation today, as a stepping stone to further consolidate the existing ties of friendship and mutual understanding between Maldives and Romania. In this regard, the President stated that it is a pleasure to meet with the new Ambassador of Romania, and to work with resolute commitment for the development of a more constructive relationship with Maldives and Romania. The President also expressed interest working together in exploring new areas of cooperation and towards achieving mutual benefits.

During the call, the President and the Ambassador discussed the ambitious economic transformation agenda pursued by the Government, and invited Romanian businesses to seek available investment opportunities in the Maldives. The other areas of discussion included cooperation at the United Nations and in the tourism sector.

The Ambassador pledged full support from Romania in further enhancing the ties of cooperation with Maldives, in the areas discussed and committed to and expressed hope that the existing relations will grow from strength to strength in the years to come.

 

The new Ambassador of Nepal to the Maldives, His Excellency Professor Bishwambher Pyakuryal presented his credentials to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom‎, this morning, at the President’s Office.‎

At the ceremony, President Yameen conveyed greetings and good wishes to the President, Her Excellency Bidhya Devi Bhandari and Prime Minister, His Excellency Sher Bahadur Deuba of Nepal, and congratulated Ambassador Bishwambher Pyakuryal on the commencement of his term.

During the call, the President highlighted the great importance Maldives attaches to its relations with Nepal, and thanked the Government of Nepal for the continued assistance in the development of human resources in the Maldives, particularly in the field of medical education. In this regard, the President requested for the possibility of increasing the number of seats offered to the Maldivian students pursuing medical education in Nepalese Universities.

The President also expressed hope and confidence in further enhancing the level of cooperation between the two countries, through the collaboration in both international and regional fora, as well as through exploring different avenues of cooperation, during the Ambassador’s tenure.

Diplomatic Relations between Maldives and Nepal was established on 1st August 1980.

The President was accompanied at the ceremony by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, HE. Dr. Mohamed Asim and the Minister of State for Foreign Relations at the President’s Office, HE. Mohamed Naseer.
