THE MALDIVES ESTABLISHES DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS WITH ETHIOPIA

The Republic of Maldives and the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia have formally established diplomatic relations today.

The Joint Communiqué formalising diplomatic relations between the two countries was signed on behalf of the Government of Maldives by His Excellency Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Maldives to the United Nations and on behalf of the Government of Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia by His Excellency Dr. Tekeda Alemu, Permanent Representative of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the United Nations. The joint communiqué was signed at the Permanent Mission of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the United Nations in New York.

Following the establishment of diplomatic relations with Ethiopia, the Maldives currently maintains diplomatic relations with 170 countries.
The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia is located in Eastern Africa and has a population of approximately 105.3 million.
