President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has launched the Campaign to minimize Single-Use Plastic in President’s Office. The ceremony was held at the President’s Office this morning.

At today’s ceremony, the President initiated the use of multi-use glass water bottles, in place of single-use plastic bottles, by presenting glass bottles to all the employees of the President’s Office.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Solih expressed his hopes that single-use plastic will be greatly minimized in all the ministries and government offices within the first 100 days of this administration. He noted that today’s initiative is an important step towards the protection and preservation of our environment.

The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to the Republic of Maldives His Excellency Rear Admiral Akhtar Habib, NGP, ndc, ncc, psc, BN, called on His Excellency Abdulla Shahid, Minister of Foreign Affairs, this afternoon.

During the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ambassador congratulated the Minister on his appointment and discussed ways of further strengthening the existing close relations between the Maldives and Bangladesh. Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Abdulla Shahid has arrived in Male’ today, after concluding his official visit to the United Arab Emirates.

During his visit, Minister Shahid met his counterpart, His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of UAE and discussed ways to further strength the relationship between the two Countries. The two ministers discussed the issue of visa waiver for Maldivians travelling to UAE. From the beginning of 2019 Maldivians will be able to travel visa free to UAE. Read more

Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Abdulla Shahid met the Director General of Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, His Excellency Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, today.

During the meeting, Foreign Minister Shahid reflected on the close brotherly relations between Maldives and the United Arab Emirates. Minister Shahid also expressed gratitude to the leadership and Government of UAE for the valuable contribution towards the socio-economic development of the Maldives and reiterated the importance of further strengthening the historical ties between the two countries.
